2010 Balboa Park Holidays in which the building is CLOSED and we do not hold class:

  • Memorial Day, Monday, May 31st, 2010
  • Independence Day, Sunday, July 4th & Monday, July 5th, 2010

New students with no previous training, please visit or call (619-233-3060) the office so that we may assist you in registering for your classes.

If you are a student new to SDCYB with previous training elsewhere, please visit or call (619-233-3060) the office, so that we can schedule a placement class for you.

You'll attend a ballet class with other students where you will be observed by the teacher and receive a staff recommendation for placement in our program.


 

Mandatory SDCYB Dress Code
Long hair in tight bun and short hair pulled back. No ponytails, extra clothing, skirts, tutus, or jewelry.

Girls: pink tights, and pink ballet slippers.

Girls Leotard Colors:
Tiny Tots & PreBallet - Pink
Level 1A and up – Black

Boys: All levels - Black tights or dance pants, black ballet slipper, & white tee or dance shirt

Beginning at age four through young adult SDCYB stresses the appreciation of the art of ballet and diligently guides students to professional careers in the world of dance and lifelong connections to the world of the arts.

Students are offered performance venues throughout the year with two major productions annually in April and December at the Casa del Prado Theater in Balboa Park.

San Diego Civic Youth Ballet's Expectations:

  • We expect everyone to be treated with courtesy, respect and dignity.
  • We expect an environment that nurtures a love of the art of ballet.
  • We expect teachers to maintain a classroom atmosphere where it is safe to make mistakes.
  • We expect students to accept the challenges to learn and grow despite the risk of failure.
  • We expect ballet to be taught in a positive manner. Corrections will be given with fairness, and accepted with respect.
  • We expect all dancers' individual efforts and progress will be encouraged and applauded by both the teachers and their fellow students.
  • We acknowledge that dance is a discipline, and expect everyone to honor their commitments to class, rehearsal and performing.
