The San Diego Civic Youth Ballet Uniform Policy

As we begin the new school year we would like to take this opportunity to review some of the basic rules and regulations of San Diego Civic Youth Ballet.

Dress Code

• EVERY dancer is neat, hair in a bun or short hair pulled back. NO ponytails at any level.
• NO skirts attached, no extra jewelry, clothing, or accessories.
• Pink tights, pink slippers for all.

Girls

• pink tights, and ballet slippers.

Leotard colors

• TinyTots & PreBallet Pink
• Levels 1-6 Black

Warm up clothes

• Tight fitting warm up tee or sweater in the color of your leotard. Pink ballet sweater okay.
• Leggings in plain colors, worn for warm up only.

Hair

• Hair is secured with bobby pins in a bun at all times. Short hair is clipped back.

The NO's

• No ponytails.
• No scarfs or bandanas.
• No buns with only scrunchies that you keep redoing because they fall out. Secure it once.
• No other colors of leotards, of sweats, of shorts, of tees, of sweater.
• No pink tights worn outside the leotard.

10 Minute Rule

If a dancer arrives more than 10 minutes after class has started that class is forfeited.

The dancer may only observe. The dancer may make up the class within the rules stated above.

The dancer will not receive credit for tardiness or absences.

SDCYB Rules cont.

• Dancers are promoted by the Artistic Director. Not by themselves, not by birthdays, not by parents, not by the calendar, and not by simply purchasing pointe shoes.
• Dancers are invited to join pointe classes by the Artistic Director.
• Dancers must maintain a Certain amount of technique classes. Check schedule for your level.
• Promotions occur when The Artistic Director feels you have mastered your current level of technique, been consistent in attendance, and attended the number of classes per week to sustain a specific level of technique.
• Teachers are always happy to discuss the areas that need attention and your strengths. Make an appointment to talk with your teacher- between classes is difficult and rushed.
