Kim Thomas
Kim Thomas joined SDCYB as Executive Director in April 2022 and brings multi-layered experience from non-profit leadership, youth + social service work, research, and dance. This combination underscores her ability to understand SDCYB’s young audiences and their developmental needs and the expertise to lead a nonprofit organization effectively. Kim holds an MS in Nonprofit Leadership and Management and a BS in Sociology with an emphasis in research methods. Before joining SDCYB, she was with the American Academy of Pediatrics, San Diego chapter, where she launched and provided strategic leadership to the First 5 First Steps Family Support Program, an affiliate of Healthy Families America. In recognition of her commitment to helping all children reach their full potential, Kim received the 2016 State Leader Service Excellence Award from Healthy Families America. She also sits on the Board of Directors of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership, keeping her closely involved in programs that engage visitors to the park where SDCYB is located. Dance has been a constant in Kim’s life. At an early age, she studied ballet and jazz through the El Cajon Recreation Department and danced with the School of Performing Arts for ten years. She has enjoyed preparing for annual dance recitals and being a pre-ballet instructor with young children. Kim continues to pursue her passion for dance, particularly in ballet and social dances.
